High school seniors across San Diego County are anxiously awaiting the final ruling in a court case that may keep California's exit exam from taking effect this year. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis visited a local high school and spoke with students.
Seniors at James Madison High School in Claremont are taking a handful of tests this week as the school year winds down, including the high school exit exam. This year's graduating students have prepped for the test since they were freshman. So when an Oakland judge issued a tentative ruling on Monday to postpone the exam, many seniors rolled their eyes. Seventeen-year-old Jarrell -- district officials would not allow us to use his last name - says the test is easy and should not be put off any longer.
Jarrell: "You should be able to pass it to get a high school diploma. So since it was set that the Class of 2006 has to pass it, I think that's what needs to be kept. If you keep pushing it back, you're going to find yourself pushing it back endlessly for another decade."
Only 10 of 230 seniors at Madison High have yet to pass the test. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
