Fans Rally for the Padres

About 3,000 San Diego Padres fans gathered at Petco Park Monday for a special afternoon pep rally. The Padres kick-off their National League Division series against the St. Louis Cardinals today. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Padres fans young and old carried signs and swung special rally towels to celebrate the team’s first back-to-back playoff appearance in franchise history. The Padres qualified for the playoffs after beating the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend. A handful of Padres players were on hand at the event and thanked the fans for all their support. Padres coach Bruce Bochy says the team wants to make the fans proud.

You know the players, they wanted to come out here and acknowledge the fans. And the fact that they came out and support us like this. This is the way to rally together, and pull together here, and hopefully we can get this done.
