Propostion 1-D will pump millions into local school districts, community colleges and public universities across the state. California educators were surprised the measure wasn’t a slam dunk with voters. Prop. 1-D organizer Frank Caso says the bond’s hefty price tag and project list may have intimidated residents.

Caso: This bond dealt with not only building and rebuilding new schools but also providing the technologies we need. So its hard thing to do.

San Diego County is eligible for $200 million under Prop 1-D. Meanwhile Prop. 88, which would have introduced a new property tax, was soundly defeated. The state funding measure would have paid for class-size reduction programs and instructional materials.
