Cinema en tu Idioma is the Media Arts Center San Diego's monthly screening program that presents films from Latin America or Spain.? The series continues this month with a romantic soccer comedy from Brazil, Romeo and Juliet Get Married/O casamento de Romeu e Julieta (opening January 12 at Ultra Star Mission Valley 7 at Hazard Center).
Brazil's romantic comedy Romeo and Juliet Get Married
This month the Media Arts Center San Diegos monthly screening is in the awkward position of opening its Latino film against anotherin this case Guillermo Del Toros Pans Labyrinth. Its a little unfair opening Bruno Barretos light entertainment Romeo and Juliet Get Married against Del Toros heavy drama, but the openings are an unfortunate coincidence of timing. Del Toros film is artistically the far superior one and should not be missed. But since Pan's Labyrinth has Oscar aspirations, it will probably stay in theaters until the nominations are announced later this month. Romeo and Juliet Get Married/O casamento de Romeu e Julieta, on the other hand, is unlikely to extend its run beyond this week.
