Acclaimed Author Shares Stories of Growing up in CA Migrant Camps

Tom Fudge: Life has always been hard for migrant workers in California. But you might not get that impression reading the children's books of Juan Felipe Herrera. The stories of his childhood -- told in his books -- are filled with magic, bright sunshine, festivals and the taste of good food. 

Herrera spent part of his childhood in migrant camps, and part of it in San Diego's Barrio Logan. Today, he is an acclaimed poet and writer of books for young people. And he's a professor of creative writing at UC Riverside. He's in San Diego to lecture Wednesday night on the campus of San Diego State University.
