A Mexican customs official says his agency is feeling more pressure from organized crime groups. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has details.

Tijuana's Customs Director made the comments after meeting with his U.S. counterpart and the Governor of Baja California.

Mexican leaders called for the meeting to discuss a wide range of customs issues.

Tijuana Customs Director Juan Bravo Moises, would not provide details about the kind of pressure his agency is feeling from organized crime.

He said customs agents are also seeing an increase in the number of guns being smuggled from San Diego to Tijuana.

Moises : And with the contacts and with the information from other authorities in the U.S., it’s something that we have been detecting.

Bravo did not know how many guns his agents seized recently, nor when the increase began.

U.S. federal authorities say the California-Mexico land border is not traditionally a main thoroughfare for arms smuggling. Amy Isackson, KPBS News.
