The skies above San Diego Bay will explode with color at midnight tonight when fireworks are set off from two barges. The Port's Marguerite Elicone says the Port Tenants Association is footing the $15,000 bill for the show.

Elicone: Our tenants all pitched in together to throw together a fireworks show for the city of San Diego because I believe the city budget was slashed and so they couldn't afford to give the annual fireworks show that they usually do.

The Port Tenants Association is a non-profit group of businesses that lease land from the Port. Elicone says the best viewing is along the north and central areas of the bay including Shelter Island, Harbor Island and the Coronado Tidelands Park. She says get their early to find parking or take the San Diego Trolley to the North Embarcadero area - another spot to watch the show. Ed Joyce, KPBS News.
