The Border Patrol says agents discovered two dead bodies in some of the most inhospitable terrain along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Border Patrol spokesman Quinn Palmer says the bodies were discovered Tuesday night northwest of Ocotillo, a small desert community about 70 miles east of San Diego.
Palmer says an illegal immigrant stopped an agent who was driving on a state highway and said he got separated from three others. His footprints led agents to the two bodies in an extremely rugged, remote area. Another man was taken to Palomar Pomerado Hospital in Escondido.
Hundreds of migrants die each year crossing the border illegally from Mexico, many of them from dehydration in torrid summer heat.
Palmer says temperatures in the area have been around 110 degrees.
