California Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer is calling on the head of the Environmental Protection Agency to resign. Yanmei Xie reports.
Senator Boxer says EPA administrator Steven Johnson weakened air standards and drinking water regulations. The Bush administration appointee also blocked California from regulating greenhouse gas emissions from cars. Boxer has asked Johnson to release EPA documents on these decisions and answer questions in Congressional hearings. Johnson has refused.
Boxer: "For me to sit there and see the foot dragging, the cover ups, the secrecy that's going on at EPA, it's, it's very disturbing."
An EPA spokesman says Johnson has aggressively defended public health and will continue to lead the agency.
