Suit Dropped Against Officer Whose Dog Died in Car

The city attorney's office has dropped a civil lawsuit against a San Diego police officer whose police dog died when he left it in a hot patrol car with the windows closed.

The city attorney's office has dropped a civil lawsuit against a San Diego police officer whose police dog died when he left it in a hot patrol car with the windows closed.

City Attorney Mike Aguirre said in a Tuesday statement he decided to drop the civil claim because Officer Paul Hubka has showed remorse and promised to help raise money to reimburse the police department for heat alarms it has bought for its canine cars.

Hubka pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of animal endangerment last week. He was placed on three years probation and ordered to pay the department nearly $5,000 to replace the dog. The next day he gave a tearful apology.
