Thousands of aspiring singers were expected to flock to Petco Park in downtown San Diego today to register for an audition for the11th season of "American Idol.''
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and will also be held Thursday and Friday, the same day the first round of auditions will begin at the ballpark.
Singers who make the cut will be asked to return to Petco for a second round of auditions Saturday through Monday.
The last time "American Idol'' producers held auditions in San Diego was in 2007, when 12,000 people packed into Qualcomm Stadium.
The rules of "American Idol'' state that a singer must be 14 to 29 years old, and a legal U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident eligible to work full-time in the country. A driver's license and birth certificate or passport will be requested, and minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
