San Diego Police Clear Suspect In North Park Attacks Of One Charge

A 23-year-old man arrested this week on suspicion of carrying out a spree of sex assaults in North Park over the last three months has been cleared of involvement in one of the crimes, authorities announced Friday.

David Angelo Drake II of San Diego was taken into custody Monday evening and pleaded not guilty Thursday to 18 felony charges in connection with the series of attacks on women in neighborhoods near Balboa Park.

Since Drake's arrest, detectives have eliminated him as a suspect in the second of the six assaults, which occurred June 17 on Meade Avenue, near 33rd Street, according to police. Investigators are still seeking tips about that case, Sgt. Shawn Takeuchi said.
