Longtime San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau has been nominated to the NFL Hall of Fame class of 2015.
The list, released Wednesday by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, includes 113 nominees. Other players include quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receivers Isaac Bruce and Tory Holt, all part of the St. Louis Rams “Greatest Show on Turf.”
This is Seau’s first year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame. He spent 13 of his 20 NFL seasons with the Chargers.
He was an eight-time All Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl 12 times. He was AFC Player of the Year in 1994.
Seau committed suicide in May 2012 in Oceanside at the age of 43. A toxicology report found he had Ambien in his blood.
Following his death, his brain was donated to the National Institutes of Health, who diagnosed him with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, which is the result of violent head trauma. His family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the NFL.
