The San Diego Padres announced Sunday on its Twitter page that interim manager Pat Murphy will not return as the team's leader next season.
Murphy, who replaced the fired Bud Black, took over the club in June and still finished the season below .500.
The club ended up with a record of 74-88, fourth in the National League West, a dismal result compared with the optimism the Padres and its fans had in the off-season.
Murphy will not be gone, MLB.com reported, but was expected to be in a different role next spring.
He will address the media at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Padres clubhouse interview room, MLB.com said.
The Padres lost to the National League West champion Los Angeles Dodgers Sunday, 6-3.
The team did not release a formal statement.
