As an acclaimed actress and playwright, Anna Deavere Smith has brought a new perspective to performance by highlighting the many voices that make up a single story. Known for her documentary-style approach to embodying the voices of her characters, she has left audiences stunned by her work in plays such as "Fires in the Mirror" (1992) and "Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992" (1993).
On this episode, Anna sits down with Kelly to share her experience of collecting stories to better understand what makes our world tick and if there is cause for hope and optimism. Anna reveals to Kelly how she stumbled into acting purely by chance but has since used the opportunity to study the significance of linguistics in understanding each other's stories.
