San Diego has long been known as a hotbed of great musical talent. What’s more, San Diego is home to one of the best music venues on the West Coast. Since 1974, the Belly Up has been featuring great local bands from the Cedros Design District. This episode features performances by Stripes and Lines plus Earl Thomas and The Rhumboogies:
STRIPES AND LINES
Stripes and Lines are a San Diego based band that is re-invigorating indie rock with style, energy, drive and creativity. Drawing on influences ranging from the songcraft of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Police and Pearl Jam; to the quirky genre-bending work of artists like Jane’s Addiction and Fugazi; Stripes and Lines is creating some of the most vital and progressive music in the genre. Founded in 2009, by a core of longtime friends and bandmates of various other projects Stripes and Lines immediately attracted a loyal southern California club following, subsequently touring both the east and west coasts in venues. On this episode the band features Marty Schwartz of Guitarjamz.com as a guest guitarist.
EARL THOMAS AND THE RHUMBOOGIES
Earl Thomas reunites with his original bandmates, The Rhumboogies, one of San Diego's premier bands for the first time in nearly 25 years to deliver a powerful and emotional blues show that their long time dedicated San Diego fans and new listeners alike are sure to enjoy. The Rhumboogies are a collective of vast talent and drive with a soft spot for traditional 1950s and 60s Chicago, Texas, and West Coast blues. While the Rhumboogies parted ways in 1990.
This concert features original members Earl Thomas (lead vocals), Eric Lieberman (guitar), Brad Karow (drums), Scott Corey (guitar), Tom Mahon (piano), Jonny Viau (saxophone), bassist Scott Smart standing in for Greg Willis and a special guest appearance by Alicia Aragon from Blue Largo. This episode is a chance for longtime fans to relive one of their favorite bands and for new fans to experience a new and unforgettable band even if it is for just one night only.
