The San Diego Unified school board is expected to reveal the names of the top three finalists to be the district's next superintendent on Tuesday evening. The announcement will be made at district headquarters.
The five school board trustees are taking part in a number of closed door meetings before they make the announcement.
The district has been without a permanent leader for about a year. Former Superintendent Terry Grier unexpectedly left San Diego for Houston after 18 months on the job.
School trustees are hoping to hold on to the district's next leader by making the selection process more open and transparent. Typically school boards hire headhunting teams to recruit top administrators.
A district-appointed taskforce of parents, teachers and one student went through all the applications and made recommendations. Five townhall forums were also held.
The three finalists will make their debut at a community forum Thursday. The interim superintendent is William Kowba, the district's former chief financial officer.
