One of the world's largest reflecting telescopes takes its first look at the sky. The Great Canary Telescope sits on a peak on the Atlantic island of La Palma. It's expected to be fully online by 2008.
Among the guests at the opening was former Queen guitarist Brian May, who's made a second career for himself as an astrophysicist.
