In nations like Brazil, Cuba and the Dominic Republic, many Afro-Latinos say race dominates politics and culture. The Miami Herald has a new series about the black experience in Latin America, called "A Rising Voice: Afro-Latin Americans."
John Yearwood — the newspaper's world editor — is director of the series. He's joined by Carlos Moore, a Cuban-born black man who now lives in Brazil.
