Germans Emigrate to Other Nations at Record Pace

Germans are emigrating to other countries at a record pace despite the country's strengthening economy.

One reason so many people are leaving Germany is that the European Union encourages workers to move between member states. Other European countries, like Great Britain, Sweden and the Netherlands, are also seeing record-breaking emigration figures, and many people from those countries are going to Germany.

Researcher Juergen Schupp says those newcomers will make up for lost tax revenue. And a potential "brain drain" of skilled workers will be held at bay — at least for a while.

Meantime, even Germans who stay put can leave vicariously — by watching reality shows about their countrymen emigrating.
