Four years ago today, a massive undersea earthquake off the coast of Sumatra triggered a tsunami. The massive wave crashed on South Asian coasts, killing an estimated 230,000 people. Today, from India to Indonesia, thousands are gathered to remember the dead.

That tsunami was the deadliest in recorded history. Most who were drowned or swept out to sea were in Indonesia, but many also perished in Sri Lanka, India and Thailand, and about one-third were children, plus thousands of tourists.
