SAN DIEGO - KPBS and the San Diego Public Library are joining together for One Book, One San Diego, a new community-wide reading initiative. The project is launching at a reception at the Museum of Photographic Arts on January 10, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. Don Bartletti, the photographer for Enrique’s Journey will be at the reception to discuss his exhibit of photographs from the book.
One Book, One San Diego is designed to get all San Diegans reading the same book at the same time, and to educate and enlighten on topics and themes of concern to the community, while promoting reading as a source of pleasure and enrichment.
Enrique’s Journey by Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Sonia Nazario is a nonfiction story about the intense love that drives many Central American children on a harrowing journey to reach their mothers who left to work in the United States. Topics to be discussed in relation to this book include immigration, family, love and forgiveness.
KPBS is partnering with the City of San Diego Public Library in an effort to make books and discussions available throughout San Diego County. Through KPBS radio, Web, television and outreach, One Book, One San Diego will encourage everyone to take time each day to read the selected book. The project will also include lively discussions and exchange of ideas around the book and the themes and issues it raises.
