San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined KPBS for his monthly update on the business of the city, looking at everything from the budget to police retention to water recycling in the City of San Diego.
San Diego's new Pure Water plan will make recycled water one-third of the city’s water supply by 2035. Faulconer said he supports the $3.5 billion plan.
“This program is so important because this allows us to have a clean, safe and reliable drinking supply that we are going to have to do if our region is to remain competitive and have the water that our families and local businesses need,” Faulconer said.
The plan will create three water-recycling plants that will provide 83 million gallons of drinking water each day.
The recycling plants will start producing clean water by the year 2023.
