Acclaimed Pianist Aruán Ortiz Performs In San Diego
GUEST:
Aruán Ortiz, pianist/composer
Acclaimed jazz pianist Aruan Ortiz finds inspiration in more than rhythm and sound. He finds it in art and words and architecture.
The Cuban-born musician is out with a new album titled “Hidden Voices.”
Ortiz has been called the "latest Cuban wunderkind to arrive in the United States" by BET Jazz and "one of the most versatile and exciting pianists of his generation" by Downbeat Magazine.
"I appreciate all the attention my music receives, but I'm just a student of the music," he said. "It's inspiring and motivating to continue working hard."
Ortiz is in San Diego for a solo performance at Bread & Salt Sunday.
He discusses the blending of cultures, forms and ideas in his music Thursday on KPBS Midday Edition.
