Voice Of San Diego Guide To Public Schools A Tool For Parents

Voice of San Diego has published a guide to assist parents in choosing a school for their children.

"A Parent's Guide to Public Schools" explains the options available and includes data on school performance.

Students are automatically assigned to their neighborhood school, but parents can request a transfer to another school within the school district, a magnet school or a charter school. In some cases, parents can also request an out-of-district transfer.

The guide is available online, at public libraries and community organizations.

Information sessions on the guide will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. at the Logan Heights Library; Thursday, March 7, at 4 p.m. at the Mission Hills Library; and Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the Serra Mesa Library.

Voice of San Diego Editor Scott Lewis joins Midday Edition on Tuesday to discuss the guide.
