Impeachment inquiry launched

Is impeachment in store for embattled President Donald Trump? This week House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the launching of an impeachment inquiry following a whistle-blower complaint on controversial communication between President Trump and the Ukrainian President. With overwhelming support from House Democrats, some Republican politicians appear to be slowly getting on board.

San Diego County jail deaths

An investigation into the San Diego County jail system finds an alarming death rate among inmates compared to other large counties in the state. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports at least 140 inmates have died while in custody within the last ten years. That equates to roughly one inmate a month. Now, some county supervisors are calling for a review of the Sheriff’s Department and its behind-bar operations.

SDG&E seasonal rates

SDG&E is proposing an elimination of seasonal rates due to the common increase of expensive usage during the summer months. However, the utility company is also planning to add a “fixed charge” of $10 a month to customers’ bills. While SDG&E says the proposals will lead to savings for the ratepayer, some are skeptical it will be more of a financial burden on those who use less energy.
