Department of Defense Schools Toughen Absentee Policy (Video)

Department of Defense schools are taking are tougher stance on student absences. According to the Pentagon Channel, children who are absent from school with approval from the principal will still be responsible for completing school work when they are away.

In addition, students are now required to be in class at least 180 days. Principal Deputy Director for DoD Education Activity Dr. Nancy Bresell told the Stars and Stripes that until now, each DoD school had its own attendance policy. She said a uniform policy was needed:

“Our new system-wide policy will help military communities focus on the importance of school attendance and provide the support and interventions when needed to ensure that every child attends school and has the opportunity to grow and learn in our classrooms.”
