The two Marines killed April 11th in the crash of an MV-22 Osprey operating off the USS Iwo Jima in Morocco have been identified as Cpl. Robby A. Reyes of Los Angeles and Cpl. Derek A. Kerns of Fort Dix, New Jersey. Their ages have not yet been released.
According to the Department of Defense, two other Marines were severely injured in the Osprey crash. Their names have not yet been released.
All four Marines involved in the crash were with the VMM-261, which is part of the 2nd Marine Air Wing currently attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit out of MCAS New River in North Carolina.
Col. Frank Donovan, 24th MEU commanding officer, told DVIDS news:
“Being a Marine is inherently dangerous but this is a shock to all of us. Our primary focus right now is making sure our Marines and their families are taken care of. We send our prayers and sincere condolences to the families of these Marines and mourn with them through this tragic event.”
