The Navy is reporting that one of its MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopters crashed in the Middle East near Oman today. The military isn't releasing any details on the fate of the five crew members on board.
According to a Navy news release, the MH-53E crashed 58 miles southwest of the capital city of Muscat, Oman. The helicopter was conducting heavy lift support operations when it went down. Military officials don't believe "hostile action" was a factor in the crash.
The news release states:
Another MH-53E helicopter assigned to the squadron is on the scene, providing search and rescue assistance.
The MH-53E was assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron-15, based at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia.
The military is investigating the crash.
