Military Criminal Charges Filed In Deaths Of Two Navy Divers (Video)

The Navy has announced it will charge two Naval diving unit senior leaders with involuntary manslaughter and dereliction of duty in connection with the deaths of two Navy divers in February.

The two divers who died were Navy Diver 1st Class James Reyher, 28, of Caldwell, Ohio, and Navy Diver 2nd Class Ryan Harris, 23, of Gladstone, Missouri. Both Sailors were assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2, based at Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia Beach.

The Navy hasn't release the names of the two Navy leaders charged in connection with the deaths of Caldwell and Harris. But Navy officials told the Associated Press that the two defendants are a chief warrant officer 3 and a senior chief petty officer. Like Caldwell and Harris, they are assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2.

As Home Post previously reported, Caldwell and Harris drowned during a training exercise at Aberdeen Proving Ground "Super Pond" in Maryland on February 26.

An Article 32 hearing to determine if there's enough evidence for a Court Martial will be held at Norfolk Naval Station on May 21.
