Army Spc. Ray A. Ramirez, 20, of Sacramento, California, was killed June 1 in Wardak Province, Afghanistan from injuries suffered when his vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense.
Ramirez was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
According to Ramirez's Facebook page, he was a 2010 graduate of Florin High School in Sacramento.
The Los Angeles Times reports Ramirez was on his first deployment when he was killed. He enlisted in the Army in March 2011.
