That dark smoke you see rising in the San Diego sky may look scary, but it's just the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting unit conducting training fires on the airfield until noon Saturday.
A news release from MCAS Miramar warns that "flames and smoke may be visible from nearby roadways."
However, I live all the way in North Park, and I can see the fire from my front yard. So the smoke may be traveling further away than the folks at MCAS Miramar anticipated. Just a heads up.
