The Navy has permanently removed Command Master Chief Petty Officer Jesus Galura from his post on the USS Germantown, as an investigation into whether Galura sexually assaulted another crew member continues.
As Home Post previously reported, Navy Capt. Heidi Agle, commodore, CPR-11, temporarily reassigned Galura on Jan. 7.
At the time, the Navy announced:
Agle...determined the (sexual assault) investigation would negatively affect Galura's leadership ability and would be an unnecessary distraction to the command mission.
On Feb. 11, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Adm. Harry Harris, Jr., decided to make the removal permanent:
Harris determined Galura's relief should be made permanent due to the length of the investigation and loss of confidence in his ability to effectively lead the Chief's Mess and be a contributing member of the command triad.
According to Galura's Navy biography, he attended basic recruit training in July 1989 in San Diego. Galura then participated in Seaman Apprenticeship Training in San Diego, graduating as Class Honor man.
Command Master Chief Jeffrey Steinly will permanently take over Galura's duties.
Galura has been reassigned to Amphibious Squadron 11.
The Germantown is forward deployed in Sasebo, Japan.
