The Army has charged a 23-year-old soldier with killing San Diego County native Army Spc. Adrian M. Perkins, 19, while the two men were deployed in Jordan last May.
The Denver Post reports the charges against Spc. Jeffery T. Page include murder, manslaughter, and negligent homicide:
Military documents say Page shot Perkins with an M4 rifle at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Al-Azraq, Jordan on May 15.
Perkins died at a hospital in Amman, Jordan.
Perkins grew up in Pine Valley, which is an unincorporated community located in the Mountain Empire region of southeastern San Diego County.
According to his Facebook page, Perkins graduated from Mountain Empire High School in 2012.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
Home Post reported back in May that a Fort Carson spokeswoman said Perkins received his fatal injury when he "was shot at a Jordanian military base." The spokeswoman said no Jordanians were involved in the shooting.
San Diego television station NBC7 spoke with loved ones of Perkins soon after his death:
