The Surprise - Wife surprises Marine husband during his return from year-long deployment
The video of this surprise military homecoming with a twist has gone viral, garnering more than 1.3 million hits in the last month.
It all started when Sara Taylor decided to surprise her husband, Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Fort Taylor, when he returned to Camp Pendleton after a year-long deployment in Afghanistan.
Sara Taylor, a Marine veteran herself, wrote this message accompanying the video on YouTube:
"The media is full of military men and women surprising their families upon their return from deployment, but it is very rare to see a military member get surprised by their loved ones.
"My husband has been in Afghanistan for the last year. He was one of the last group of Marines to come back from the war. Because he is stationed in California and our kids and I live in Maryland, he didn't think that anyone would be there when he returned.
"But I showed him!"
The Marine told The Associated Press it took awhile for him to process that his wife had indeed showed up for his return to the States:
“When I recognized it was her, I was shocked.
“It was a rush of emotions. A feeling of completeness, fulfillment, sadness because I’ve been gone for so long, and happiness to be back.”
