USS Carl Vinson Pilot Rescued After Ejecting From Fighter Aircraft

A pilot on the USS Carl Vinson was rescued by helicopter after he safely ejected his plane during a routine flight operation.

The incident happened while in the Celebes Sea, near the Philippines, as the pilot was approaching the ship.

Officials released a statement saying the incident is currently under investigation.

The pilot was apparently not injured.

The USS Carl Vinson left San Diego for deployment on January 5.

U.S. officials said the vessel is headed for the Sea of Japan, where it would be available in a region that's tense after recent provocative statements from North Korea.
