Youth Offenders Allege Sexual Abuse in Texas

The Texas Youth Commission (TYC), responsible for about 5,000 offenders, is under fire after inmates claimed they were sexually abused, and that agency officials covered it up.

Over the past week, police visited 22 TYC facilities to investigate the claims. The first allegations surfaced in 2005. But state lawmakers say they didn't learn of the problems until this year.

Ben Philpott of member station KUT reports.
