Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott to Resign by End of Year

Trent Lott of Mississippi, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, announced Monday that he is resigning by the end of the year. He was first elected to Congress in 1972 and is currently the Senate's Minority Whip, or head vote wrangler.
