Federal census workers who visit households that have not returned 2010 survey forms will wear identification and will not ask to enter homes, the Carlsbad Police Department announced today.
About 5,000 census workers will fan out across San Diego County over the next three months, according to Fiona Everett of the CPD.
The identification will include the census worker's name and a Commerce Department watermark, but not a photograph, Everett said. The ID will expire in July 2010.
The census taker will not try to go inside a residence or ask for personal information beyond what's on the form, she said. The individual will also carry contact information for a supervisor, and an official letter from the census director.
Everett said residents who suspect fraudulent activity should call the police.
