San Diego Council Gets Full Menu Of Options

San Diego Council Gets Full Menu Of Options
There have been a lot of suggestion about how to deal with San Diego's budget problems. Now the City Council will consider them all at once.

When you go out to eat you probably like seeing the menu. San Diego City Council members want to see one too. But this menu won’t help them decide what to have for lunch.

When the council meets today, it will be looking at a budget menu. It’s a list of nearly 300 options that have been considered as a way to fix the city’s structural budget deficit.

The city’s Independent Budget Analyst put the list together. IBA Andrea Tevlin said it’s probably the most comprehensive list available.

“We tried to go back over everything we have seen over the past year,” she said. “We just thought it would be helpful to show the wide range of issues that have been discussed.”

The list includes everything from reforming retiree health care to replacing beach lifeguards with “Swim at Your Own Risk” signs.

Tevlin said the Council will identify some key options they want to pursue while they try to fix the city’s finances. This year’s deficit is about $56 million.
