After Republican losses on Election Day, some wonder if the GOP has a critical Latino problem. Can George Bush fix that problem?

Not one of the former presidents, but George P. Bush, son of Jeb Bush. His mother is a Mexican immigrant and he’s fluent in Spanish. And he’s laying the foundation for a statewide run for office.

On the day after the national election, he submitted paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission, which allows him to raise money for state elections.

Bush is the co-founder of Hispanic Republicans of Texas. The other co-founder, George Antuna, says Bush isn’t ready to announce what office he’s running for. Still, Antuna claims, Bush could be the solution to the GOP’s Latino problem.

“You know he’s bicultural – he knows the state – everything from north, east, west and South Texas. He understands the whole region because he’s been working it for quite some time.”

There’s speculation Bush is setting his sights on running for Governor of Texas in 2014. If true, his run could set up a blockbuster Latino vs. Latino election battle, pitting him against San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. But, like Bush, Castro has not announced any plans to run for governor.
