A state agency that investigates sexual harassment complaints has received a second report of alleged inappropriate behavior by Mayor Bob Filner.
A spokesperson for the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing said late Tuesday someone filed a complaint against the mayor Monday and requested an investigation. The spokesperson, who provided the information via email, would not detail the nature of the report or who filed it, citing an ongoing investigation.
Former mayoral communications director Irene McCormack also filed a complaint with the agency but requested a right to sue letter rather than an investigation, which the agency has up to a year to complete.
The state agency only takes reports regarding sexual harassment or discrimination cases involving employers, so it's likely the person who made the complaint is a current or former city staffer or someone worked for Filner during his time in Congress. The agency requires accusers to file complaints within a year of the alleged misconduct.
The latest report comes on the heels of McCormack's Monday lawsuit which alleges repeated sexual harassment by the mayor, and a Tuesday KPBS interview with political consultant Laura Fink, who said Filner behaved inappropriately toward her at a 2005 fundraiser when she was then his deputy campaign manager. Fink has said she plans to report the incident to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The department has set up a hotline for potential harassment complaints involving Filner.
On Tuesday, a Sheriff's Department spokeswoman would only say that the tip line has received calls.
