Thousands of San Diegans will head downtown beginning tonight for Street Scene, the annual music festival. But people living in the East Village neighborhood are asking party goers to respect their community.
About 6,000 people live in the East Village, the downtown neighborhood centered around Petco Park. Residents there are getting ready for a busy weekend as Street Scene prepares to take over. Dan Tomsky is with the East Village Community Action Network. He says organizers have made progress on making the festival work in a developing neighborhood.
“They’ve become much more mindful of how to set up the 21 and over so-called beer garden areas. Better design, better signage, those sorts of thing, to really help reduce the risk of underage access and consumption,” he says.
Tomsky says organizers have also created a better layout for the festival this year. He says people going to Street Scene should remember there’s no tailgating allowed outside of the event.
