Strong gusty winds are expected to blow across San Diego County mountains and deserts today, likely creating difficult driving conditions along eastern Interstate 8, according to the National Weather Service.
Western winds of between 25 and 35 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, could prove particularly troublesome for drivers of high- profile vehicles along the interstate between Pine Valley and the Imperial County line, the NWS warned.
Blowing dust and sand in desert areas may reduce visibility to near a quarter-mile at times, the NWS said. Motorists were advised to use caution as the winds could also down tree limbs and power lines.
An NWS wind advisory is set to remain in effect in mountain and desert areas until 6 p.m.
The winds are expected to decrease overnight, with forecasters calling for fair, dry weather until this weekend.
