Crews Put Out Talmadge House Fire, Two Police Officers Hurt

Officers Were Helping Evacuate Nearby Apartment Building

It took crews about 20 minutes to extinguish a fire that tore through a Talmadge-area home Wednesday.

The blaze in the 4400 block of 51st Street, near El Cajon Blvd., was reported shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Crews arrived to find the residence almost fully engulfed in flames, a dispatcher said.

Authorities at the scene evacuated a nearby apartment building as crews battled the fire.

One San Diego police officer assisting in the evacuation effort suffered minor burns, while another officer was treated for smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
