The San Diego Padres went into an unusual rain delay and vehicles began to hydroplane on flooded freeways near La Jolla on Sunday, as heavy rains from the remnants of Hurricane Dolores again hit San Diego County.
The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood advisory for the areas of Escondido, Poway and Santee because of the rain. It was to remain in effect until 6 p.m.
In Ramona, a house flooded and cars were underwater at 11th Street near state Route 78.
Around 3:15 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that a mudslide occurred at the northbound Interstate 5 off-ramp at La Jolla Village Drive.
Earlier, about 2:30 p.m., mud was oozing across all five lanes of northbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, near the Palomar Street bridge.
In La Mesa, numerous vehicles were reported under water in front of an auto dealer on Alvarado Road near Coconut, and exits from Interstate 8 might be closed, the California Highway Patrol reported. The Interstate 8 east off-ramp at Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon also was flooded.
Flooding was also reported on state Route 79 in North County, and on state Route 78 in the Julian area.
The rain delay was the seventh ever in Petco Park's history, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The final game in this series against the Colorado Rockies stopped in the fifth inning, with the Rockies leading 1-0.
Power outages were reported by SDG&E in Oceanside and Bonita. Approximately 2,000 people were without power in Oceanside and 800 more customers experienced blackouts in Bonita, the utility company said.
This was the second straight day of rain — an unusual occurrence in San Diego County in July. On Saturday, thunder, lightning and rain pounded the region in the morning.
