Crews Monday gained full containment of the smoldering remnants of a weekend brush fire that blackened about 55 open acres and briefly threatened homes near Fallbrook.
The blaze erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday off De Luz and De Luz Murrieta roads, according to Cal Fire.
Personnel with the state agency were able to halt the flames within several hours and keep them from damaging any homes.
Firefighters had the burn area 100 percent surrounded by early this afternoon, officials reported.
