A water main break sent water gushing down an Imperial Beach roadway early Monday morning.
The break occurred before 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of Donax Avenue and 13th Street. The intersection was closed, and crews with California American Water shut off the pipe just before 4:30 a.m.
San Diego County sheriff’s deputies at the scene said there was concern over the structural integrity of the roadway due to the water that was flowing underneath for more than an hour.
There was fear a sinkhole could develop. Drivers should avoid the area.
