Construction Halts Weekend Trains Between San Diego And Los Angeles

Rail service between San Diego and Los Angeles will be interrupted over the next three weekends, beginning Saturday, because of construction projects around Southern California, according to the North County Transit District.

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner and the NCTD's Coaster trains won't run Saturday or Sunday.

Amtrak said it will only offer replacement bus service for passengers with tickets connecting onto other train routes departing Los Angeles, such as the Sunset Limited, Southwest Chief or Coast Starlight.

Coaster passengers can use the 101 bus route, instead, or catch a Metropolitan Transit System bus.

Metrolink will run buses from Oceanside into Orange County, but passengers were warned to expect delays.

The NCTD and Metrolink will conduct maintenance, while the city of Los Angeles plans to continue demolition of the 84-year-old Sixth Street Bridge — which has represented the gritty side of Los Angeles in countless movies, music videos and TV commercials — because of seismic vulnerability and problems in the support system.

The rails will also be shut down Oct. 15 and 16 and Oct. 22 and 23.
