About North County Youth Ballet North County Youth Ballet, run by North County Academy of Dance, is San Diego County's premier youth ballet company. Directed by Pablo & Cassandra Infante, NCYB provides dancers ages 10-20 the opportunity to perform in a challenging, fun, and innovative environment. This season, dancers have performed original works of choreography by some of California's leading choreographers, as well as 2 full-length Classical Ballets. In this production, "Choreolab", they are showcasing their own choreography set on their peers. NCAD opened in 2010 and has sent many of their dancers into the top ballet schools, companies, and colleges in the world. Some stories and poems are shaped as much by what remains unsaid as by what is spoken. In this two-part generative workshop for poets, fiction writers, memoirists, and hybrid writers, we’ll explore how silence, omission, secrecy, emotional restraint, and gaps in knowledge can create tension, complexity, and resonance on the page. Through readings, discussion, prompts, and in-class writing, participants will examine how writers use absence as a craft tool and how family secrets, cultural silences, missing histories, and unanswered questions can become powerful literary material. We’ll read and discuss work by writers such as Yusef Komunyakaa, Natasha Trethewey, Agha Shahid Ali, Lucille Clifton, Eduardo C. Corral, Jhumpa Lahiri, Alexander Chee, James Baldwin, Akwaeke Emezi, and Jesmyn Ward. The first session will focus on silence as craft, emotional restraint, and writing around what cannot be directly said. The second session will explore revision strategies, omission as a source of tension and meaning, and will conclude with a supportive sharing session for both poetry and prose writers. Our cartoon is "Plane Crazy" (1928), the first Mickey Mouse cartoon to be produced... but the fourth to be released. Next is another important first: "The Lucky Dog" (1921). This Stan Laurel film features a character actor named Oliver Hardy. It would be five years before they made another film together, and made history! And our own Russ Peck will provide live piano music! In "One Good Turn" (1931), an elderly woman gives food to Depression victims Stan and Ollie, so they decide to help her out. Stan's young daughter Lois was upset that Stan always got the worst of it from Ollie, so in this film the tables are turned... Another first! Other films include "The Finishing Touch," "The Stolen Jools," "The Midnight Patrol," and our first showing of a special tribute to Oliver Hardy.
